Building Ukhuwah: Realizing a Harmonious Community at Tunas Unggul School

In order to strengthen Islamic values in daily life Sekolah Tunas Unggul  organized a special study with the theme “The Meaning of Silaturahmi and Ukhuwah in Building a Harmonious Community” on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. This study presented Ustadz Acep Taufik Ismail, a da’i and character builder known for his heartfelt and down-to-earth da’wah approach.

In his lecture, Ustadz Acep began with the words of the Prophet ﷺ:

“Never does a people gather in one of the houses of Allah, they recite the Book of Allah and study it, unless there will descend upon them tranquility, mercy envelops them, the angels surround them, and Allah praises them before His creatures.” (HR Muslim)

He emphasized that the meaning of gathering is not just a social ritual, but part of faith in Allah. Losing the meaning of togetherness in modern life is an essential loss – because humans were not created to live alone.

Silaturahmi is a Spiritual and Social Foundation. There are two meanings of silaturahmi. Silaturahim means connecting family relationships based on lineage, while silaturahmi refers to brotherhood in ukhuwah Islamiyah and friendship. Both are an important part of Islamic teachings that are reinforced through the words of the Prophet ﷺ. He said, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him keep in touch,” and “Those who cut ties with Allah will not enter Paradise” (HR Bukhari-Muslim).

Silaturahmi brings grace, sustenance, longevity, and great rewards. In fact, according to Ustadz Acep, true friendship is when we initiate a relationship that was interrupted, not just repaying kindness with kindness.

Ukhuwah Islamiyah is the soul of the school community that serves as a pillar in building a healthy and educational learning environment. Ukhuwah is not just emotional closeness, but unity of heart in faith that is reflected through mutual help, advice, and sacrifice, with the highest level being itsar-putting the interests of brothers and sisters first because of Allah. In the study with Ustadz Acep Taufik Ismail, it was explained that strengthening ukhuwah can start from simple things such as expressing love for Allah, praying silently, giving gifts, shaking hands with a cheerful face, to helping in trouble and maintaining brotherly rights consistently.

He ended the study with a quote from a hadith Qudsi:

“My love is obligatory for those who love each other because of Me, give to each other because of Me, advise each other because of Me, visit each other because of Me, and stay in touch because of Me.”

Through this study, Sekolah Tunas Unggul affirms its commitment to not only excel in academics, but also in shaping individuals who are moral, social, and grow in love with others.

May these values of ukhuwah and friendship continue to grow in the hearts of every school community making us not just a learning community, but a big family that is blessed by Allah SWT.
